The Need:  Interview Chinese college students who are coming to the U.S. on a J-1 Work and Travel visa.  The Work and Travel program in the U.S. allows college students from other countries to travel to the U.S., work legally during their summer break, and then travel for a month before returning to their home country.  Students need to be interviewed about what it is like to live and work in the U.S. and also for their English language ability and skills.

This paid Internship is available only to native English speakers from the U.S.  You need to have earned a high school (secondary school) diploma or certificate, be in good health and be able to travel. Placements are available October 2009 through December 2009 and March 2010 through the first week of June 2010.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Work in the office in Beijing helping office staff with their English.
  • Assist staff with interview forms. 
  • Travel where needed to interview Chinese college students who are coming to the U.S. on the J-1 Visa Work and Travel program. Interviews are for language ability and suitability of the program. 
  • Manage your own personal expenses (telephone bills, clothing, entertainment and spending money).
  • Be available to work some evenings and weekends.

Additional Information There are only 2 paid Internships available in China. If 2 people share a short-term apartment rental, the cost per person is normally around $200/month each.
