HELP TEACH AT A LOCAL SCHOOL AND SPEND TIME WITH ORPHANS

volunteer abroadBaan Kru Mookda or "Teacher Mookda's House" is the residence for 29 children ranging in age from 8 to 17.  This project was established in 1989 by Mrs. Mookda and others to provide accommodation, education, and a better quality of life for local orphans and children from nearby mountain tribes whose families are unable to support them through high school.

Volunteers are very active in the day-to-day activities of the children at Baan Kru Mookda.  They teach conversational English to students at the community school as well as the orphanage.  They look after and treat children as another member of the family, while acting as a suitable role model, counselor and cultural ambassador.  Volunteers also help arrange recreation activities.

  • Teaching English classes to children and adolescents at the local school.
  • Create lesson plans and design course materials (flash cards, handouts, activities, games etc.)
  • Help students with homework assignments.
  • Looking after the children, while acting as a suitable role model, councilor, and cultural ambassador.
  • Help arrange group and recreational activities at the orphanage.

Local Transportation Much walking and riding of bicycles.  Other Transportation to and from the orphanage is included.

Locations Located in the Dok Kham Tai district of Phayao province in northern Thailand. Phayao is located just a few hours south of Chaing Rai, and it is about the same distance east of Chiang Mai. 
Working Hours Approx. 7 am - 4pm 
Language Requirements Excellent spoken and written English. 
Additional Information It is recommended while teaching for men to dress in slacks and a collared shirt. For women, it is recommended to wear a long skirt and shirt that covers your shoulders. While at Baan Kru Mookda, shorts & t-shirts are fine.
