  • Location: In or near Bordeaux, Toulouse, and Bayonne (Southwest France) and and near Paris.
  • Age of Children: Most families have school age children.  If there is a baby, the au pair’s main task is to look after the older children, or help the mother with the baby.  The au pair should not have sole charge of a child less than two years old.  Most French families have 2 to 3 children.  Families with one child represent about 10% of the total; families with 4 to 5 children are only 3% of the total.
  • Expectations for Au Pair:  An au pair has to be fully reliable when looking after the children. The Au Pair has to take part in the family life and routine.  Meal time is very important in France, and au pairs should be prepared to spend some time speaking with the family during the evening meal.  They should help with the meal as a member of the family.
