Brief Program Description
Peru, home of the great Inca Empire, is a country of deep history and culture.  It is a magical location that contains one of the richest biodiversities on Earth.  Peru is the third biggest country in South America and it ranges from the beautiful coast line to the spectacular Andes mountains and down again to the dense Amazon River basin.

The culture of Peru is comprised of the multicultural layers of many great civilizations.  The heritage of the Inca’s has been passed down not only by their spectacular ruins but also with the Quechua language, which is still spoken in many areas of the country.  You can wander the around colonial cities which have preserved the legacy of the Spanish conquistadors.  You will be able to explore the lost city of Machu Picchu and ponder the enigma of the Nazca Lines.

All of the programs in Peru include transportation from the airport to their host family, a short orientation, twenty-four hour assistance, a walking tour of Miraflores, half board (two meals per day) six days a week as well as information on travel around the country.

In the Teacher’s Assistant Program, you will be placed in public schools that are lacking in good infrastructure.  You can participate at the kindergarten, elementary or high school levels.  You will be able to help the teachers with all of the assignments and if you feel confident, you can even give lessons.  The English class is given one or two times a week and you will also coordinate with the teacher to prepare the class.  Other activities include helping with the physical education of the children.

Additional Fee Information 3 week program is $1440. 4 week program is $1560. Spanish classes are available for 1 or 2 weeks. The cost is $160/week (10 hours/week).

Additional Information An additional application and Spanish evaluation will be provided for volunteers to complete. Also required is a CV with photo (in Spanish, if possible), 1-2 letters of recommendations, and a letter to your host family.
