COMMUNITY WORK AT A KINDERGARTEN/ DAYCARE IN LIMA Help Build a Learning Environment for Lima’s Youth
Help make a difference in the lives of the young children in Peru’s capital city of Lima by volunteering at this kindergarten. As a teaching assistant, volunteers can help the children with math, art, language, English, and other subjects. They will also be supervising singing and play time for the kids. Volunteers with a good knowledge of the Spanish language will have the opportunity to prepare and give their own class if they so desire. There are a total of about 50 children in the school, divided into five classes: 2-3 years old, 2-5 years old, 6 years old, 7 years old, and 8 years old.
A key trait for volunteers in this project is to have patience, creativity, and energy to play with the children. Initiative and enthusiasm are also important to success in the classroom. Spanish is not mandatory; however it helps with the children’s experience in the classroom. Due to the poverty in the area, teachers should be prepared to work with little material.Volunteers will stay with Peruvian families specially selected for this program. Most of the houses are located in Lima’s upscale and artistic districts, and all have running water and hot showers. Volunteer activities may include: - Assist in teaching math, art, language, and English - Supervise singing and play time with the kids - Devise a lesson plan and instruct a class All GeoVisions programs include accommodation and meals, airport pick-up, project training, in country support, medical insurance, extensive pre-departure support and project orientation. |
