Teach English To Families With The Conversation Corps
GeoVisions founded the Conversation Corps in 2006. The Corps was established as an "alternative" Volunteer Abroad program with more of an emphasis on cultural exchange. As the global media casts more and more of a shadow upon voluntourism, it is prudent to have a program that emphasizes cultural exchange and communicating first, intercultural learning second, and then discovering how volunteers can help third. This program always resides "above the fold" in the discussion of sustainability.
There are families who are actively looking for "live-in tutors" to help them with conversational English. They ask only 15 hours each week of volunteered time in exchange for a private bedroom and 3 healthy home-cooked meals each day. Depending on the tutor’s schedule, free-time can be used for travel, a language class, cooking courses or even writing a first novel!
