Jordan is one of the most welcoming, hospitable countries in the world. Where else could you leave your belongings on the street for hours at a time, and find them there when you get back? Where else do total strangers with nothing to sell invite you into their homes?

The Center for Excellence in Education provides Jordan and the Middle East with a model for education to prepare future leaders for challenges in the global market.  The Center was established in 1998 and aims to advance national and regional educational standards through the development of innovative curricula and training programs for public and private school teachers and administrators.

The Center has set a milestone in educational reform in Jordan and the region particularly by launching The Science Garden.  This initiative promotes science teaching and learning in Jordan through a unique process of hands-on experimentation and disovery.

The Science Garden, established in 2003, hosts a number of scientific learning zones to give students a hands-on application of the scientific laws and principals. The Science Garden mostly hits its operational peak during spring since it is outdoors.  GeoVisions is actively recruiting volunteers who are creative and interested in Science to assist in developing the output of the Garden.

Volunteer Activities:

  • Help with light maintenance to the facilities of The Science Garden to keep them at their optimal operational levels
  • Volunteers with some scientific background can provide tours in English to English speaking visitors of The Science Garden
  • Volunteers will develop and start activities for students in The Science Garden and supervise these activities

All GeoVisions programs include accommodation.  Most include meals (Please see the Fact File for details), airport pick-up, project training, in-country support, extensive medical and accident insurance, extensive pre-departure information and onsite project orientation.

Additional Fee Information If you volunteer for 3 months, the total fee is $3,350. Volunteer for 6 months and the total fee is $5,670. Volunteer for 9 months and the total fee is $7,660. 
Language Training An introduction to Arabic is provided 3 hrs. per week to a maximum of 12 hours. Included.  Airport Transfers Included. 
Orientation 2 full days in Amman included.  Flights Not included.

Room Housing is in a 2 bedroom house, rented for our volunteers. Accommodation is included in the fee. 
Meals Not included. The residence is a 15 min. walk to a grocery. Food is purchased there and you cook at the residence.

Working Hours 35 hrs. per week. 
Language Requirements Must be able to speak English. 
Additional Information The residence is a 2-BR apartment in a western suburb of Amman, with 2 volunteers per bed room. The apartment is fully furnished, as is the kitchen where you will prepare your own meals. A bi-weekly cleaning service is included.
