VOLUNTEER AT A CHINESE ZOO AND AND FEED ANIMALS, REPAIR CAGES AND CARE FOR THE GROUNDS. Yantai is one of the major Chinese coastal cities for tourist attractions, historical heritage and relics, boasting of a total population of over 6.4 million with 12 satellite towns and districts under its administration.
In 2004, China Central Television (CCTV) recognized Yantai as the most "Charming City of China." Yantai is located in the northeast of the Shandong Province. It is bordered by both the Yellow Sea and the Bohai Sea, and lies across from South Korea and Japan.
Although Yantai is located in North China, monsoons regulate the climate, keeping it warm and humid. The average annual temperature is 11C (53F).
Volunteers are needed in almost all aspects of the Yantai Zoo and Park, inlcuding light maintenance, rebuilding cages, taking tickets and watering flowers.
There are more than 80 types of animals in the zoo. At present, the park has succeeded in carrying out many types of reproduction including the east tiger, lion, bear, hippopotamus, peacock, camel, wolf, and silva.
During the time you are not volunteering at the zoo or park, you may also choose to do local hiking and excursions. There are many local places to visit such as Penglai Pavilion, Nanshan Grand Buddha, Mou’s Manor, Kunyu Daoist Mountains, Horsing Raising Island, Tashan Park, and Yantai Hill Park.
Volunteer Activities may include:- Feeding the animals
- Watering flowers
- Planting trees in the zoo and park
- Reparing animal cages
- Selling tickets
- Taking photos with the visitors
- Setting up the English Corner in the zoo
This program includes accommodation in a hostel, 10 minutes walk from the zoo and park. The program includes all meals, airport pick-up and return, project training, in country support, medical insurance, extensive pre-departure information, transportation to and from the project and project orientation. |
