HELP THE DEVELOPMENT OF ORPHANS AS A TEACHER AND MENTOR There are numerous opportunities throughout the beautiful country of Costa Rica to work at different orphanages. With locations in rural and city areas scattered throughout the country, volunteers can help improve the lives of children in their choice of setting.
Volunteers are needed to help feed, watch, and take care of the children in the orphanages. Some basic education is appreciated, including teaching conversational English. In certain orphanages, volunteers can tutor the children after school with a focus on conversational English, grammar, science, and math. Volunteers are also needed to instruct children in music and computers. The orphanages are looking to develop new and creative projects as well as techniques for instructing children with special needs. Participants should be self-starters who don’t mind a flexible schedule and are comfortable working with minimal supervision.
The orphanages generally have between 15-20 children.
Volunteers arrive in the capital city of San Jose and will be picked up and brought to an area hostel for the first two days. There will be a brief orientation during this time about their program and new surroundings in Costa Rica. Volunteers will then be transported to their host family. Living with a host family is a wonderful way to learn about a new culture and share a piece of you at the same time.Volunteer Activities May Include: - Tutoring children in various school subjects
- Helping children learn conversational English
- Coming up with dynamic ways to help orphans with special needs
- Playing with the children while teaching numbers, colors and songs
- Serving children their meals
- Taking orphans to the park
