TEACHER'S ASSISTANT IN LIMA, PERU
Help turn around the education for children of all ages
This project gives participants the chance to help the education of children in an impoverished area of Lima, Peru’s capital city. Located in the San Juan de Miraflores district, this public school suffers from a lack of good infrastructure and tools normally found in a school.
However, since 2005, volunteers have come in and made an immeasurable difference. The school now has a library, computers, and a recreation area. But there is more work to be done in the school and in the classroom.
Volunteers will be a teacher’s assistant in all subjects, from math and art, to language and English. Depending on the level of proficiency in Spanish and confidence, participants will also have the opportunity to teach a class in English, sports, art, music, or crafts. Participants can also assist at the elementary and high school levels with a physical education teacher and play sports with the children. This program places and emphasis on recreation and the arts, so all additional skills in those areas possessed by the volunteers is of great help.
Programs begin every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month with a few exceptions. The schedule is 8 AM to 1 PM, Monday through Friday. Volunteers will stay in other nearby areas of the city with families specially selected for this program. This is a great time to learn and exchange cultures outside of the school.
Volunteer Activities May Include: - Assisting teaching students of all ages in subjects like math, art, language and English - Teach a class in a creative science - Play sports with the children and teach physical education class - Creating a creative classroom lesson
All GeoVisions programs include accommodation. Most include meals, airport pick-up, project training, in-country support, extensive medical and accident insurance, extensive pre-departure support and onsite project orientation, and 24 hour emergency answering service.
