This program operates all year-'round. Your actual start date will be worked out in advance with your host family.

How long can I stay?
The minimum length that you can stay is 12 months. The maximum length is five years or when you turn 27 ... whichever comes first.

How Much Will I Make?
Earn between £593.78 ($832 USD) to £836.58 ($1,184) per month plus a private bedroom, all meals, and health insurance.

How Many Hours A Week Will I Work?
You will work between 25.5 and 35 hours a week. But, anything over 25.5 hours, you'll be paid £6.07 ($8.55 USD) per hour additional.

What If I'm Not A Native English Speaker?
If you're not a native English speaker, simply take a government-approved English proficiency test and receive a minimum CEFR score of B1.
Do You Qualify For This Unique Opportunity?
Can you be available for a family in the UK (Northern Ireland, England, Wales, or Scotland) for a minimum of one year? This is the least amount of time you can stay, and depending on your age, you can stay as long as five years.
If you are not a native English speaker, you will need to take an English exam. The minimum level of English proficiency is B1 on the CEFR scale. This is a governmental requirement to receive a visa. Please be advised there is a UK Government approved list of English Proficiency Exams and they could cost anywhere from £100 and £200. If you are a native English speaker, you do not need to take the exam.
Do you have £624 ($890 USD) to pay the Embassy when you get your visa? This is the amount the UK Government requires you to pay for a year of National Health Insurance. It must be paid for in advance of receiving your visa. You will receive 50% of this back six months into the program and the other 50% at the end of the program. This is a UK Government requirement and cannot be waived.
To obtain the Skilled Workers Visa, you must be between the ages of 18 and 26. You can be 26 when you apply. Once you reach 27, you will have to transition out of the program.
Can you provide 2 childcare references and 1 character reference?
The UK Government will require you to pay a Biometric enrollment (fingerprinting, etc.) of £19.20 (27 USD). This fee is not reimbursed.
Will your Criminal Background Check be clear when we run it? And, will you be able to provide a medical history?

If you’re ready … we have incredible families who need you right away, living in amazing locations all over the UK. It's an amazing cultural exchange!
What do live-in childcare assistants do exactly? They take care of the children during scheduled hours. Being part of this international program is an extremely rewarding experience. It’s a great chance to work overseas, immerse yourself in a new culture and learn invaluable life skills along the way.
What if issues arise with my host family after I’m abroad?
When you become a live-in childcare assistant, you begin a unique working and living relationship with your host family over an extended length of time.
Like with any family, there will be times of miscommunication. 99% of the time, these misunderstandings are cleared up quickly.
However, don’t hesitate to contact our office in the UK for help. They want to hear from you, no matter the reason! If things really are not working out, they’ll work with you regarding the possibility of a rematch with a new family, subject to availability.
Can I take college classes while on the program?
Yes. Your visa does allow you to take classes in the UK whilst being a live-in childcare assistant.
Depending on your placement, you are free to take university (or other) courses in Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland, or England.
What does applying for the Skilled Worker's Visa entail?
Here are the Government's requirements to obtain a Skilled Worker's Visa. GeoVisions Foundation will work with you every step of the way in this process.
A Skilled Worker visa allows you to come to or stay in the UK to do an eligible job with an approved employer.
This visa has replaced the Tier 2 (General) work visa.
Your job
To qualify for a Skilled Worker visa, you must:
- work for a UK employer that’s been approved by the Home Office
- have a ‘certificate of sponsorship’ from your employer with information about the role you’ve been offered in the UK
- do a job that’s on the list of eligible occupations
- be paid a minimum salary - how much depends on the type of work you do
Knowledge of English
You must be able to speak, read, write and understand English. You’ll usually need to prove your knowledge of English when you apply.
How long you can stay
Your visa can last for up to 5 years before you need to extend it. You’ll need to apply to extend or update your visa when it expires or if you change jobs or employer.
Will I have a contract listing my hours, pay, vacation, and how I'll get paid?
Once the host family has agreed to place a live-in childcare assistant, you should receive a written offer from our London office. This will cover everything expected during the placement, including the family’s expectations, house rules, salary and benefits, hours to be worked, accommodation to be provided, and any other information applicable that should be noted during the live-in childcare assistant's placement.
Do I need an international driver’s permit?
First things first, it's not technically a driver's license—you'll already need one of those from your country or state of origin to accompany your international driving permit. The permit, a small, passport-like booklet issued by the American Automobile Association (AAA) and the American Automobile Touring Alliance, gives visitors the right to drive a car in any of the countries that accept it. The permit translates your American driver’s license into ten languages, including Arabic and Portuguese.
If you're traveling to a country that doesn't speak your language, you should get one anyway for the peace of mind, according to Bryan Shilling, AAA's managing director of travel products and services. “The real value of it isn’t so much from a legal standpoint," says Shilling. "It’s really in case something were to happen—you’re pulled over for a driving infraction, or there’s an accident, or something goes awry. If you don’t have an international driving permit, [the police] may not be able to communicate effectively with you."
Start by filling out an application (print it here) and make sure you have two passport-sized photos. Then, find your nearest AAA branch office (the AATA only take applications by mail) and bring those materials, along with your driver’s license and $20, to the most convenient location. There's no need to make an appointment, and as long as your documents are in good shape, you'll receive your international driving permit within minutes on the spot.
Should I bring my U.S. phone with me?
You could simply use your existing phone with a local SIM card purchased when you arrive in the UK.
Because you're going to be away for a year or more, you might want to consider purchasing a phone with a UK cellular and data plan.
Some newer phones come with 2 SIM cards ... one you can keep your home number and the other will be your new UK number.
If you’re planning to contact people back home, you could also use your existing device with WiFi for apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, FaceTime, Skype, and other ways of calling free back home.
Do I need to buy a roundtrip flight?
Your airline may give you a hard time at the airport (or even when you purchase your ticket) if you don't purchase a round trip airfare. But it is not legally necessary to buy a roundtrip ticket.
You will want to make sure to show the desk agent your Skilled Workers Visa at the airline counter and your biometrics card. They will know you intend to be in the UK a year or more and you'll then be fine to board with a one-way ticket.
Why do I have to pay a program fee?
The program fee you pay makes it possible for us to promote the program (the way you heard about it) and to also pay our staff to review your application, help you make your application better, and get you placed and matched that much faster. It also helps us advertise for families and to fully vet them. It allows us to also provide 24/7 UK support while you're there.
The GeoVisions Foundation is a non-profit, 501 (c) (3) organization, so our mission is to keep fees as low as possible for our participants. We can't give you tax advice, but many of our participants have been able to receive a tax refund on the fees they have paid to The GeoVisions Foundation.
"This is normally where we place program reviews. But this program is new in the UK ... no one has ever offered it before. In the meantime, feel free to click here to see hundreds of independent reviews for our other programs. This program is approved by the British Government for the Skilled Workers Visa. We will post reviews when childcare assistants begin returning after their program."
