Wherever you decide to do your TEFL course, you are unlikely to find a more charming and beautiful location than Crete. From the life and vitality of the old town of Hania to the medieval mountain villages, from the sun-drenched sandy beaches with their all-year-round sunshine to the Minoan ruins of Knossos - Crete seems to offer everything. The wild landscapes of the interior and the majestically unspoiled trekking opportunities of the nearby Samaria Gorge make you forget sometimes that you are never more than a few miles from a palm-fringed beach.
The largest island in Greece, Crete is home to 162 beaches! Four main regions offer very different experiences, but thanks to Crete’s relatively inexpensive transportation — roughly $1.50 per mile via taxi or $3 round trip via public transportation — you can easily see them all. Be sure to stop for local cheeses, dakos, and baklava along the way.
The language school in Crete is situated in the center of Hania, Crete’s second city (and former capital) on the North-West coast. Hania is a beautiful old Cretan town with a population of around 60,000. The old town center is clustered around the 14th-century Venetian harbor where much of the city’s life and light is to be found. The town is large enough to offer a cosmopolitan atmosphere and a ready range of nightlife and places to see, but small enough that it’s normally easy to get around on foot – whether from the school to your apartment or from the local bar down to the nearest beach.
This TEFL Course includes 130 hours of expert classes with 10 hours of assessed teaching practice, and covering all areas of Teaching Skills, Classroom Management, English Grammar

This 130 hour program is primarily for graduates who wish to gain certification as a teacher of English as a Foreign Language (TEFL). Typically course members (trainees) are over 21 years of age and hold a degree from a recognized university. In certain circumstances non-degree holders will be considered for a place if their qualifications and / or experience are regarded as being equivalent to the demands of a degree. Trainees must either be native speakers of English or be able to demonstrate a competence in English by scoring a 70+ on the iTEP Conversation test. You can take the test here.

We are asked the same questions each day, so we hope this page of Frequently Asked Questions will be helpful to you. Anyone in our office can answer your questions anytime you call. We want you to make informed decisions, and we will be happy to talk to you anytime.
The CTEFL (Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language) is an internationally recognized qualification for the teaching of the English language.
While the course is essentially practical, some evidence of readiness study at a higher education level is necessary in order to cope with the academic side of the course. In some cases, work experience may be accepted in place of qualifications.
Please note that in some countries a 3-year degree is necessary to obtain a work permit and that employers will not be able to legally hire you without one in those places.
No, you do not. We use the universally accepted "communicative approach" to teaching, where English is the only language used in the classroom.
You must be at least 18 years of age for your application to be considered. There is no official upper age limit. Some employers may have a preference for younger teachers, while others tend to prefer more 'mature' teachers.
The majority of our trainees are in their 20's and 30's but we have successfully trained and found employment for graduates in their 40's, 50's and even 60's and therefore welcome applications from all interested parties regardless of age.
The CTEFL is a 4-week course and is very intensive, from morning to evening (course times may vary slightly due to location). We have tried to arrange the course so that you will have the weekends free to relax and explore your chosen area. This does, however, mean that the days are longer and more intensive.
Due to the highly practical content of the CTEFL course, all graduates should have the necessary confidence and ability to embark on their teaching careers and work in a professional manner anywhere in the world.
All certificate courses, however, serve as initial teacher training and those interested in pursuing teaching as a career often go on to take a diploma or MA after a number of years of teaching experience.
Yes. While there is no true international body for TEFL courses, internationally accepted guidelines state that the course must have 100 hours of input, 6 hours of teaching practice and is externally monitored. Our CTEFL course has, in fact, 130 hours of input and a minimum of 10 hours teaching practice as well as being externally monitored.
Excellent. At present, there is a shortage of certified, qualified teachers worldwide and consequently, the majority of our trainees have found employment by the time they complete the course.
Yes. All graduates receive individual counseling and assistance with finding a teaching job. As GeoVisions Foundation is an international organization it has contacts with many schools worldwide and can even often place graduates within its own network of language schools.

Dress code in monasteries and churches: No shorts, bikinis or sleeveless shirts. Take your hat off when you enter a church and do not use flash for photographs. Casual business attire is always a good bet! During the winter it can get a little cold at night and a coat or jersey of some sort is recommended. During the summer t-shirts and shorts are more suitable. For working as an English teacher in Greece, smart casual clothes are normally expected.
The weather is mild throughout the winter and normally warm enough to sit outside the cafés in shirtsleeves all through the year. During the summer the temperature can rise to 40 degrees Centigrade (100°F) but the fact that you’re never far from a palm-fringed beach helps to make this a little more bearable.
We offer fully furnished apartments with kitchenettes for your stay during the course. The apartments have a sea view and are located just 100 meters from a beautiful beach.
A shared fully furnished apartment will cost $390 for the month and a private (single) fully furnished apartment will cost $500 for the month.
Weekends are free except for the course project and we run a variety of social programs to some of the most fascinating parts of the island of Crete. These include (but are not necessarily limited to) a trek down the Samaria Gorge, visits to the beaches of Elafonisi, Falasarna, and Gramvousa, trips to the Minoan ruins of Knossos (home of the Labyrinth and the Minotaur) and stays in one or more of the small villages on the South coast of the island. There you can experience some more traditional Greek life, music, food, and ambiance in a relaxed and beautiful setting.
