Overview

Becoming an Au Pair in France is an affordable international educational experience that will enhance your resume through practical experience. And when you return home, imagine the kind of job you can get when you list this experience.

Fees

  • $789 flat fee for 1 to 12 months.
  • Pay with Klarna and set up weekly or monthly payments.
  • Or pay a $350 deposit, then a final amount of $439 after you approve the match.

Responsibilities

  • Take care of the children during scheduled hours.
  • Help the children with their homework and assist in keeping children’s rooms and play areas clean.
  • Prepare snacks and meals for the children and drop them off or pick them up from school or activities.
  • Keep your private bedroom tidy.
  • Don't keep late hours that will disturb your host family without their permission.
  • To stay longer than 3 months you will need to obtain the Au Pair Visa. With that visa, you can stay as long as 12 months.

Requirements

  • Be between the ages of 18 and 30. (Female Au Pairs are placed quickly, while male Au Pairs can take a bit longer to be placed.)
  • Have previous childcare/babysitting experience with references and a genuine love of children.
  • Commit to a minimum of 2 months as an au pair in France.
  • 2-month placements are available from June through September. If you are a 2 to 3-month au pair (usually May through September) you enter on a Tourist visa that is valid ONLY for 90-days.
  • Most long-term au pairs begin in September.
  • Provide a medical statement and a background check.
  • Be interviewed by phone or Zoom to be accepted by the family.

What You Will Earn

  • The average weekly stipend is around €400 per month for 25 hours of childcare per week. That is around $450 US each month. Don't forget! In addition to that, you receive your meals and a private room.
  • Before you arrive in France, you will receive a timetable with duties and working days/hours, so you know exactly the working time before you go. The family must respect your time off. Should the family require you to work outside the usual working hours this must be agreed by both sides and any extra hours worked must be paid.
  • Usually, au pairs are provided 1 ½ days off per week plus one weekend per month.
